This year’s Curtin Kalgoorlie Career Open Day will showcase more courses and career choices than ever, including mining, engineering, commerce, journalism, teaching and for aspiring nursing and allied health professionals there is the new Goldfields University Department of Rural Health (UDRH).

Curtin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Paul Brunton said visitors to the free event at Curtin’s Kalgoorlie campus can speak to industry representatives about work opportunities and to Curtin staff and current students about courses and entry pathways to a wide range of courses.

“Along with the renowned engineering degrees offered at the iconic WA School of Mines: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering, Curtin Kalgoorlie offers pathways to rewarding careers in areas including education, media and health sciences,” Professor Brunton said.

“With the establishment of the Goldfields UDRH and recent appointment of internationally recognised rural health expert Professor Fiona Doolan-Noble to the role of inaugural Director, Curtin’s medical training capabilities in the region have never been greater.

“Operated by Curtin in partnership with the Western Australian Country Health Service and the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Western Operations), the Goldfields UDRH gives nursing and allied health students the opportunity of gaining invaluable experience working in regional communities.”

Newly appointed Curtin Kalgoorlie Campus Director Tanya Chambers said the Open Day was a fantastic opportunity for future students and the community to connect with Curtin and explore the opportunities available.

“From our simulation clinical health hospital at the Rural Health Campus to a look inside our world-renowned WA School of Mines, there really is something for everyone including courses in teaching, journalism and business, as well as the Indigenous Tertiary Enabling Course and Uniready,” Ms Chambers said.

“Curtin Kalgoorlie is an important and proud part of the local community and we are delighted to be able to open ours doors to school students and the wider public. We are looking forward to welcoming them all to campus.”

The Open Day event will be held at the Kalgoorlie campus from 10am-3pm on Thursday, August 24. For more information visit: Curtin Kalgoorlie Career Open Day.
