Curtin leaders awarded prestigious social sciences fellowships
Three Curtin University leaders in their fields have been elected Fellows of the prestigious Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia in recognition of their outstanding contributions.
Professor John Cordery, John Curtin Distinguished Professor David Treagust and Professor Mark Griffin were today named among 37 of Australia’s leading economists, lawyers, psychologists and philosophers by the Academy.
Professor Cordery, Curtin University’s Provost, is a respected industrial-organisational psychologist who has been a major contributor to the disciplines of organisational behaviour and human resource management. A widely cited researcher, his main area of research relates to how employee performance and wellbeing is impacted by organisational and work design.
Professor Treagust, from Curtin’s School of Education, is regarded as one of the most prolific and significant Australian researchers in science education. He has been recognised internationally through his association with the National Association for Research in Science Teaching in the US, the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel in Germany, and the many international students whose research he has supervised.
Professor Griffin, the Director of the Future of Work Institute at Curtin University, is recognised internationally for the quality and impact of his work. His research examines the way people contribute to organisational performance and he has managed large-scale organisational projects in areas of safety, leadership, well-being, innovation, and productivity.
Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry congratulated Professor Cordery, Professor Treagust and Professor Griffin on being recognised among Australia’s leaders in the social sciences field.
“The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia acknowledge the nation’s top researchers for their work in social research and policy, and their outstanding contributions to Australian society,” Professor Terry said.
“I am absolutely delighted that Professor Cordery, Professor Treagust and Professor Griffin have been recognised among Australia’s most esteemed leaders in their fields and congratulate them all on this tremendous honour.”
The Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia was established in 1971 to advance social policy and thinking by promoting research and its application.
The social sciences cover the disciplines of anthropology, demography, geography, linguistics, sociology, management, accounting, economics and economic history, marketing, statistics, history, law, philosophy, political science, education, psychology and social medicine.
