Project Overview
The project will examine chemical speciation within GlyCat™, an eco-friendly metal leaching process employing glycine with cyanide that is being developed for the worldwide gold industry.
Aim
The project aims to characterise the chemical speciation of metal complexes within this eco-friendly metal leaching process in partnership with Draslovka Mining Innovation Centre.
Objectives
Specific objectives are to understand the unique chemistry within the GlyCat™ process and to develop analytical methods to quantify its metal speciation.
Significance
Improved understanding of the chemistry of the leaching process will enable Draslovka Mining Innovation Centre to better control and optimise the process conditions.
Internship opportunity
The successful candidate will undertake research on an on-going basis with industry researchers at Draslovka Mining Innovation Centre.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be an Honours or Master degree graduate in Chemistry (or a closely-related discipline) and be motivated to undertake a Chemistry research degree project in collaboration with industry. The successful candidate must meet the criteria for enrolment in the Chemistry PhD and must enrol on a fulltime basis.
This project is open to domestic and international applicants.
Scholarship
This is a National Industry PhD Program scholarship offered by Curtin University and Draslovka Mining Innovation Centre to support a PhD student on an industry-focused research project.
One Scholarship is available to provide a living stipend of $37,500.00 p.a. pro rata indexed, based on full-time studies, for up to a maximum of 3.5 years, plus top-up scholarships of $15,000 p.a. (from industry partner Draslovka Mining Innovation Centre) and $7,000 p.a. (from National Industry PhD Program) (note that top-up scholarships are not indexed).
