Information for Parents & Carers

Who can take part?
Families with kids aged 4 to 17 years who live in selected areas might be invited to take part in a national survey. This helps make sure the results reflect families from all across Australia.
If your family is chosen, someone from Roy Morgan will drop a letter and brochure in your mailbox before they visit your home. The letter explains what’s happening, and the brochure gives more details about the survey.

How long will it take?
The parent survey will be approximately 60 minutes, and the youth survey will take up to 45 minutes.
Parents/carers taking part in the survey will be given a $100 EFTPOS gift card for their time.
Young people taking part will be given a $50 EFTPOS gift card.

What is the interview like?
The surveys will happen at home if that works for your family.
Parents will do a face-to-face interview with a trained staff member who asks questions in person.
Young people aged 11 to 17 years will complete their part using a tablet — it’s an online questionnaire they fill out themselves.

What is included in the young people survey?
Young people aged 11-17 will be randomly chosen to take part in completing a 30 minute survey. This will be done at the same time as the parent or carer is doing their face-to-face survey.
The adolescent survey will include question on the following:
– internet use and social media
– anxiety,
– depression
– service use
– youth risk behaviours such as bullying, smoking
– gender and sexuality
– problem eating behaviours
– protective and risk factors such as sleeping, family support
– child maltreatment
– wellbeing
– positive childhood experiences
