Introduction
Dora is Professor of Sustainability at the Curtin University Sustainability Policy (CUSP) Institute and was CUSP Director from 2015 to 2018 and Deputy Director from 2007 to 2014. She has more that 320 refereed publications and has completed 57 PhD students who now work in academia, industry and government. She has published in prestigious journals, including Scientometrics, Journal of Cleaner Production, Journal of Econometrics and Nanotechnology. The book she edited on Impact of Meat Consumption on Health and Environmental Sustainability was awarded World Best Book in the Sustainable Food category of the prestigious 22nd Gourmand Awards. In 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2018 I served as a Panel member of the Centres of Research Excellence Peer Review Panel on Population Health and Health Services Research Grant Review Panel, National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Australian Government. For the period 1991–2017, Scopus lists her as Australia's top author and 12th in the world in the area of sustainability.
Distinctive areas of her academic contribution include:
• innovation models and the concept of a global green system of innovation as a way to facilitate the development, adoption and implementation of green technologies and counteract transformational system failures in a globalised world economy;
• the newly emerging area of sustainometrics which relates to modeling and measuring of sustainability;
• methodology for identifying technology strengths;
• the role of China in decarbonising the global economy and reducing its own GHG emissions;
• flexitarianism (or part-time vegetarianism) as a powerful concept to reduce the environmental impact of food, improve human health and generate business opportunities around plant-based proteins;
• conceptualising the issues of recognition of Indigenous knowledge outside the intellectual property (e.g. patents, copy rights and places of origin) system;
• the importance of values and spirituality for sustainability; and
• revival of the concepts of self-reliance and formulation of principles that allow integration of creativity, environmental care and good quality of life.
She is nationally and internationally recognised as Elected Fellow of two prestigious societies, namely the Modelling and Simulation Society of Australia and New Zealand (MSSANZ) and International Environmental Modelling and Software Society (IEMSS) headquartered in Switzerland. Dora is also an Elected Member of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS).
