Alfred Michael Dockery is Associate Professor with the School of Economics and Finance at Curtin Business School. Mike's area of expertise is in applied labour economics.
Overview
Associate Professor Michael Dockery is a researcher and lecturer with the School of Economics and Finance. Mike has published widely in academic journals and worked extensively with government and industry. Recent roles have included Principal Research Fellow with the Bankwest Curtin Economics Centre, Principal Research Leader of the Population Mobility and Labour Markets project within the Cooperative Research Centre for Remote Economic Participation from 2011 to 2017 and manager of the data analysis program for the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education. Prior to these roles Mike worked as a Research Fellow for the Centre for Labour Market Research and as Director from 2010 to 2013, and has taught a variety of under-graduate and post-graduate courses in economics. Mike completed his PhD by publication at the end of 2002 on the topic of the evaluation of labour market assistance policies. His main area of expertise is in applied labour market economics, with much of his research utilising longitudinal (panel) data. His current research pursuits include Indigenous socio-economic outcomes; the economics of education and training and the school-to-work transition; the links between the labour market and subjective-wellbeing (or ‘happiness’); and gender equity in the labour market. Mike has published papers in international and national journals such as the Social Science & Medicine, Social Indicators Research, Economic Record, Economics Letters, International Labour Review, Economic Papers, Studies in Higher Education, Australian Journal of Labour Economics and the Journal of Development Studies, plus a variety of monographs.

Associate Professor Michael Dockery is collaborating with Dr Sandra Buchler, University of Bamberg, Germany, on a project that aims to examine how individuals’ educational careers and competence trajectories unfold over the life course. The project is currently located at the European University Institute in Fiesole, Italy: http://edulife.soziologie-blossfeld.de/. Mike is assisting Dr Sandra Buchler in writing the Australian country chapter for the project.
Student Equity Data and Analysis
Funded by National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education, the aim of this Program is to collate and analyse national equity statistics and survey data. It supports the Centre's strategic aims by ensuring comprehensive statistics on the current status and historical trends in higher education equity for each of the equity target groups are accessible through the Centre; and facilitating and undertaking research on key equity issues.
Associate Professor Michael Dockery (with Paul Koshy and Richard Seymour) is managing this research program under the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education. The program will collates and analyses.

Associate Professor Michael Dockery (with Professor Julia Connell and Professor John Burgess, Curtin University) are leading a study into policy issues surrounding the quality of work in Australia and its links to productivity based on an international review of literature and case studies conducted with Australian firms.

Associate Professor Michael Dockery is the Principal Research Leader for this project under the Cooperative Research Centre for Remote Economic Participation. The project is studying mobility patterns of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders living in remote communities in Central Australia with the aim of improving service delivery and labour market outcomes in those communities.
