International Cross-Cultural Communication Conference 2020

Communicating diversity in the post-multicultural era: exploring paradoxes, challenges and opportunities

In conjunction with the Asia Pacific Public Relations Research and Education Network 4th International Research Symposium, 5 – 6 February 2020, Perth, Western Australia

Cross-Cultural Communication Conference 2020

In recent years, culturally diverse societies have faced increasing difficulties in accommodating diversity. Multiculturalism appears to have lost its popularity. Some scholars and politicians have gone as far as declaring multiculturalism a failure in Europe and much of Western society. Even in proudly proclaimed diverse societies like Australia, the idea of multiculturalism has been contested. Has the multicultural agenda run its course? And what are the implication for professional communicators who work across nation states and cultural contexts? How can we build integrated and connected communities in a post-multicultural society?

This conference invites you to explore the changing public discourse surrounding multiculturalism and associated challenges for international communicators.

The fourth international Cross-Cultural Communication Conference is organised by five universities: Curtin University, Chulalongkorn University (Thailand), Zayed University (UAE), Emerson College (USA) and Blanquerna School of Communication and International Relations, Ramon Llull University (Catalonia-Spain). Together these universities are providing a platform for a broad scope of research in cross-cultural communication and intercultural communication challenges. The conference focus reflects a growing interest in intercultural aspects of communication. The upcoming conference will be held in Perth, Western Australia, over two days (Thursday, 6 February and Friday, 7 February 2020).

The conference will include a keynote speakers, panel discussions and a dedicated HDR stream.
