Seminars and Training
The Office of Research and Development provides a variety of training seminars and workshops. The list below outlines the key program areas and individual sessions are outlined in the full Seminar/Training Calendar below. Information on a range of additional programs for research students and supervisors are also available via the listings in the left-hand menu.
- Enriching Postgraduate Teaching and Learning [More info...] These sessions focus on the essentials of postgraduate research. The series is designed to address the seven principles of the Facilitating Excellence in Research Training framework and each seminar addresses one or more principles.
- Ethics [More info...] These sessions cover human research ethics issues and reviewer training, and animal care and handling.
- IP Commercialisation [More info...] These sessions are aimed to inform research students and staff about IP Commercialisation at Curtin.
- Online Modules offered by the ATN [More info...] The Australian Technology Network offers Curtin students and supervisors a range of online modules (ATN-LEAP, ATN-MORE, ATN-MYC, Supervisor Solutions and InfoScholar), and these are advertised separately via email and on the respective program webpages.
- Postgraduate Student Orientation [More info...] These O-Week sessions are aimed to assist research students in familiarising themselves with campus sevices, facilities and University life.
- Research Management [More info...] These sessions focus on research management issues such as applying for grants, managing funding, understanding research contracts, writing publications and the like.
- Supervisor Induction [More info...] These sessions are aimed at academic staff who are either new to, or soon to begin, the process of supervison of higher degree by research students.
- SCRIPT Training [More info...] These seminars provide training on using the various modules of the SCRIPT database including how to use SCRIPT to enter publications, RPI claims and funding applications.
- Surviving IT [More info...] These free seminars for research students and supervisors at Curtin focus on using IT software such as Word and Excel.
To register for all seminars offered by ORD please use the central Seminars Booking System, under the various ORD seminar/training series headings. (Note: Generally, dates for the seminars will be advised on this site three weeks after the start of semester due to venue booking requirements.)

Staff who attend any session marked as eligible for the Register of Supervisors of Higher Degree by Research Students shall be considered to have met the professional development criterion necessary for entry.
