Curtin Investment Committee
The Investment Committee has been formed as an advisory body to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Development). Its primary role is to consider and, if appropriate, recommend investments in early stage technologies developed at Curtin University. These investments are made through the Curtin Pre-Seed Fund.
The Curtin Pre-seed Fund was approved by the Council of the University in 2005, providing $5 million to support the commercialisation of Curtin research.
Membership of the Investment Committee comprises external individuals with appropriate commercial, business and academic experience, and is determined by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Development).
Submissions presented to the Investment Committee must have the prior endorsement of the CAG. Such endorsement will be deemed to be confirmation that the University considers that the project is eligible for funding consideration.
Investment proposals submitted to the Committee must not be higher than $300,000 in any one opportunity, and are evaluated against the following criteria:
- Quality of the science
- Progress to date
- Technical risk
- Competitor analysis
- Structure of the investment vehicle
- Proposed Management team supporting the project
- Market opportunity and channels
- Co-investment strategies
- Exit strategies and effects of future dilution
- Potential return on investment
- Financial strategy to fund investment
