China Scholarship Council - Curtin Joint PhD Scholarships
Curtin University of Technology and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) are offering postgraduate scholarships to students from the People's Republic of China who intend to undertake research Doctoral degrees at Curtin.

About the Scholarship
PR China citizens who receive a CSC scholarship intending to enrol in a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program are eligible to apply for a CSC-Curtin Joint PhD Scholarship up to four years duration. Upon successful completion of their research, students will be conferred with a Doctor of Philosophy degree by Curtin.
Curtin Fee Waiver
Curtin will waive full tuition fees for successful applicants.
Curtin and CSC Scholarship Value
The CSC Scholarship includes a living allowance and Curtin will provide a Top-up Scholarship to a combined stipend of $20,000 per annum. The CSC scholarship will also provide student health cover, a return airfare to Australia and visa application fees.
CSC Eligibility
The CSC eligibility criteria require that applicants;
- Are citizens or permanent residents of China at the time of application;
- Must be living in China and are not currently working or studying abroad;
- Upon completion of PhD studies must return to China;
- Have an unconditional offer of enrolment for a postgraduate research degree at Curtin;
- Must have fulfilled the relevant Curtin academic entry requirements, including a high level of English language proficiency; IELTS (Academic) with an overall result of 6.5 and no band less than 6.0; however PhD courses in certain disciplines may require higher IELTS scores. - Intend to pursue a postgraduate research degree in one of the research priority areas identified by Curtin and the CSC. However, applicants to other study/research areas will also be considered.

The CSC will consider applications from graduates of 985 Program Chinese Universities, 211 Program Chinese universities and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Research Institutes. Applications will also be considered for graduates from other Chinese Universities.
Application Process and Time Frame
Applications for China Scholarship Council - Curtin Joint PhD Scholarships open on 1st August 2009 and close 23 October 2009 for study in 2010.
- Students who meet the Curtin entry requirements should apply to Curtin for admission using the Application for Admission to a Higher Degree by Research form at http://www.curtin.edu.au/research/futurestudents/admission.cfm. On page 2 of the form you should indicate you are intending to apply for a China Scholarship Council scholarship. You will need to provide an official copy of your academic record, an overview of your proposed research and IELTS results, and submit them along with the completed application form.
- Applicants who meet Curtin's entry criteria will receive an offer from Curtin subject to receiving a CSC Scholarship for the stipend. You should then apply to the CSC for your living allowance by completing the CSC Application Form at http://apply.csc.edu.cn/ and submit the forms and offer from Curtin to the CSC. Chinese Universities, CAS and the CSC set the closing dates for applications for CSC Scholarships. Applicants should check these dates locally.
- Successful applicants for CSC - Curtin Joint PhD Scholarships will be expected to commence their PhD study at Curtin within 12 months of the award.
- If an applicant receives an offer of enrolment at Curtin subject to receiving the CSC award, but is unsuccessful in obtaining a CSC scholarship, the applicant may still enrol but will be required to pay all course fees.
