Consultancy: Science and Engineering

Science & Engineering has considerable expertise available. Services offered by the Faculty are diverse and range from testing, to R&D, to expert opinions. Examples of this includes corrosion testing, environmental monitoring, accident investigation, security, materials & structures testing, friction testing, and X-ray analysis, Pressure-Volume-Temperature (PVT) and reservoir management to name but a few. Please ask for more information on these services

PVT Studies
The Pressure-Volume-Temperature (PVT) equipment at Curtin is the only fully automated and computerised system in the southern hemisphere, and can operate under the full range of natural gas processing and LNG operating conditions. A specially designed sapphire PVT cell works at pressures of up to 700 bar, in a temperature range of -161 degrees Celsius to +200 degrees Celsius. Mixtures can be observed under simulated production or process conditions.

Reservoir Management
Curtin has special expertise in reservoir management, especially optimisation and enhancement of the recovery of hydrocarbons from reservoir formations. Studies can be conducted in:

  • Simulation of patterns of production
  • Reservoir development
  • Phase effects during depletion
  • Miscible and immiscible displacement
  • Evaluation of displacement strategies
