Mr Rohan McDougall
Director, IP Commercialisation
Rohan has been the Director of IP Commercialisation at Curtin University since 2008. He has over twenty years of experience in commercialisation of new technologies including being integrally involved in the establishment and operation of numerous technology based companies. Rohan has played a lead role in negotiation and completion of countless technology based agreements and partnerships with companies in Australia and internationally. He has worked in both a commercial start up environment and in institutional technology transfer roles. Before Curtin he worked for a listed biotechnology company as the Chief Operating Officer and in commercialisation of technology out of UNSW as a General Manager, Life Sciences at Unisearch Ltd.
Qualifications include a Bachelor of Science degree, an MBA from the AGSM and he is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Current directorships include i-Cetana Pty Ltd (Chairman), HiSeis Pty Ltd (Chairman), ePAT Pty Ltd (Chairman), Skrydata Pty Ltd and Renergi Pty Ltd. Other activities include cofounding a number of innovation community events including Univation and the OzAPP Awards.

Mr Russell Nicholls
Deputy Director, IP Commercialisation
Russell joined the Curtin University IP Commercialisation Office in May 2011 as Deputy Director.
Previously he was Project Manager – Commercialisation at UWA, and has held IP Management roles in UK universities and industry, most recently at the University of Sussex. Russell has worked in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries as well as in the position of Editor of a scientific journal in the Current Opinion series. With a strong track record in deal making across all disciplines, recent highlights include setting up a biotech spin-out from research conducted at the Western Australia Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR) and negotiating successful licences in agri-biotech and food science.
Russell holds an MSc in Intellectual Property Management from Queen Mary, University of London and a BSc Hons in Applied Neuroscience from the University of Manchester.

Dr Tom Hammond
Business Development Manager
Tom joined the IP Commercialisation team at Curtin in June 2012. His previous role of Business Development Manager the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra focused on commercialisation of physical sciences, with a particular emphasis on renewable energy. He has experience commercialising technology and concluding research deals with industry in fields such as solar photovoltaics, IT, materials science and imaging technologies.
Tom’s background includes several years working in the Western Australian craft brewing sector. His academic qualifications include PhD studies on the acoustic behaviour of insects. He holds a BSc (Hons) and PhD in Zoology from the University of Western Australia, and an MSc in Science Communication from the ANU.

Mr Roger Plumb
Business Development Manager
Roger joined the Curtin University IP Commercialisation Office in March 2014. He has been involved in early stage technology companies for more than 25 years, in technical and management roles to Board level.
He spent 10 years in a medical software company in London, building it from startup to a public listing, and worked for 4 years as an Investment Director at PwC Venture Partners, a UK based incubator. Roger has advised and mentored a number of technology businesses, and for 5 years was a Director of Live Technologies, a Perth based startup and winner of the Inaugural WA Innovator of the Year.
Prior to joining Curtin Roger spent 4 years as Manager Research Commercialisation at Edith Cowan University. He has an MA in Natural Sciences (Theoretical Physics) from Cambridge University and an MSc in Management from London Business School.
